United By Blue is a sustainable outdoor lifestyle apparel brand based in Philadelphia with a focus on ocean and waterway conservation.

We first started telling only organic cotton t-shirts and hosting cleanups to live up to our mission of removing one pound of trash from oceans and waterways per t-shirt sold. Today, we uphold the same mission and offer a much larger variety of products.

How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?

We earned our first sales by working hard and reaching out to others that we knew cared about the environment. Our wholesale channel is still our largest, but our web sales and flagship store sales are growing rapidly.

Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?

The back end of our business is organized by our staff. When we receive an order, we decide whether it is small enough to be fulfilled by our flagship store, or if it should be fulfilled by our warehouse.

What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?

Our top recommendation is to not be afraid to ask for help if you need it. If you need help with a project, reach out to people and learn from those who have been through a similar situation. If you need funding for something you truly believe in, ask for it.
